My Home Alone™ approach is designed for families who are finding themselves frustrated, emotionally drained, and eager to help their pup build up the comfort necessary to be left alone. Funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation, this video series seeks to provide family caregivers an understanding of what to expect before, during, and after a hospital stay. It also shares how the 4Ms of age-friendly care — What Matters, Medication, Mentation, and Mobility — relates to the older adult they care for.

Across the country children are back in the classroom. For many of them, a return to school also means being home alone after school until their parents get home from work. The American Red Cross has steps parents and children can take to help make these after-school hours safer and less stressful. Whether it’s helping with younger siblings or your child’s first job, the Babysitting course teaches youth aged 11 – 15 skills to supervise children safely and responsibly. Developing a positive routine with this important training helps to create a calm and relaxed situation. If your dog is already calm the chances he will stay like this in your absence are higher than if you start training with a stressed dog.

This was a great ice breaker and a nice way for the instructor to gauge how knowledgeable the participants were. The “message” is particularly effective in a classroom setting as it heightens the importance of the lesson as opposed to mom or dad preaching it to them at a dinner table.

This program addresses unequal power in all types of relationships, self-esteem, taking action, and how bullying affects our minds and bodies. If the noise worries the child, they should call their parents, an adult or the police. Install safety covers on all unused electrical outlets. Make sure potential poisons like detergents, polishes, pesticides, lighter fluid and lamp oils are stored in locked cabinets or out of the reach of children.

Louie had to stay in his crate and I left the room for about 3-5 minutes. I always came back after this time, so he could see I’m still there. As soon as he was relaxed, I left the room again for about 5 minutes.

Once they heard these basics, we set our own rules and procedures so there is a clear understanding of what they should do when certain situations arise. At the end of the Home Alone Training Class class, each child that participated received a certificate showing that they completed the course. They were quite proud of themselves, and seemed very ready to take on the role of staying home alone.
